A sunrise memorial walk is to be held in Maguiresbridge, County Fermanagh, to mark one year since the deaths of a mother and her two children. Organised by Maguiresbridge St Mary’s GFC, the event will begin at Páirc na hÓige at 5am on Saturday 25 July.

Participants are asked to wear commemorative jerseys as a show of unity. Tea and coffee will be served afterwards, providing time for people to talk and support one another.

The walk remembers Vanessa Whyte, 45, and her children James Rutledge, 14, and Sara Rutledge, 13. They were killed in a shooting at their home on Drummeer Road on 23 July last year. Ian Rutledge also died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Emergency services were called to the property at around 8.20am that morning.

All three were members of the club. News of their deaths prompted an outpouring of grief across the village and beyond, leading to a community vigil, a book of condolence and many tributes from schools, sports clubs and political representatives.

The club said the walk is intended as an opportunity to remember, reflect and celebrate the lives and lasting impact of the three. It added that seeing members united in their memory would be a fitting tribute to their legacy.
