A fire damaged the roof of a GAA clubhouse in Ardglass, County Down, on Saturday afternoon. The blaze at Ardglass GAC on Ardtole Road was reported to the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) at 14:34 BST.

Four fire appliances and an aerial ladder were deployed to the scene. Firefighters extinguished the fire by 17:43 BST. NIFRS said the cause is believed to be accidental. A rubbish fire spread to nearby gorse bushes, and the flames then reached the clubhouse building.

Michael Curran, chairperson of Ardglass GAC, said the fire destroyed the entire rear section of the roof. He added that no one was injured in the incident.

Mr Curran acknowledged the support the club has received from the local community and from other GAA clubs.
