Portrush church volunteer and former post office worker dies at 76
A 76-year-old Portrush man who devoted decades to his church and local post office has died.
Brian McLaughlin, of Morrison Park, passed away on 1 July. His funeral Mass was held at St Patrick's Church in Portrush on Tuesday, 7 July.
Mr McLaughlin was a central figure at St Patrick's, where he served as sacristan, counter, collector and adviser. He was a member of the St Vincent de Paul Society for more than 40 years and received an award for his service at a garden party in 2021.
He had previously worked at the Post Office in Coleraine. Mr McLaughlin was also a regular presence at St Patrick's Primary School, where his sister Maria is a former principal. He assisted with school trips and supported sacramental celebrations.
In a tribute, the parish described him as a man whose gentle generosity and willingness to help touched everyone he met. The school said his warmth, friendship and countless quiet acts of service would be fondly remembered by staff, pupils and families.
Mr McLaughlin is survived by his siblings Maria, Margaret, Helen, Gerard and Louise, along with their spouses and many nieces and nephews.
