A sod-cutting ceremony has taken place for the £11 million Meenan Square redevelopment in Derry, marking progress on the long-planned project. Northern Ireland’s First Ministers were among those attending the event in the Bogside area.

The scheme will transform a key site into a mixed-use regeneration project. It includes a shared and inclusive community hub, commercial and retail units, open spaces, amenity areas, and car parking. The investment is expected to deliver new homes and jobs, as well as much-needed community facilities.

The project is described as community-driven, shaped by local residents, community groups, and input from multiple government departments. A Foyle MLA noted that the development would build a better future for the area and highlighted the community’s central role in advancing it.
