Car fire on putting green damages Ballycastle Golf Club
A car fire on a putting green caused significant damage at Ballycastle Golf Club, police said. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 5 July, on the Cushendall Road.
Police received a report of a vehicle on fire and officers attended with the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service. They found an overturned car ablaze on the green, with no occupants present. No injuries were reported.
The PSNI has appealed for witnesses and anyone with CCTV, dash-cam or other footage to come forward. A spokesperson said officers want to speak to anyone who saw the vehicle or was in the area at the time. The reference number for information is 30 05/07/26. Anonymous reports can be made to Crimestoppers.
UUP leader and North Antrim MLA Jon Burrows described the incident as extremely reckless and so concerning. He said it highlighted the dangers of dangerous driving and anti-social behaviour, and noted growing local concern about illegal rallying activity in Ballycastle.
Burrows acknowledged the impact on the golf club and praised the swift response of emergency services. He urged anyone with information to contact police.
