Arson Fire Targets Vacant Ballycastle Hotel, Alliance MLA Calls for Action
Authorities confirmed a fire at the vacant Antrim Arms hotel in Ballycastle as intentional arson. The blaze occurred at the long-vacant site in the town centre.
Alliance North Antrim MLA Sian Mulholland condemned the incident. She described it as reckless behaviour that endangered lives, nearby homes and local heritage. Mulholland stated the fire highlights risks from derelict buildings that attract antisocial activity.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service controlled the blaze after working overnight. Firefighters protected surrounding properties, according to Mulholland.
Road closures on a main route into Ballycastle followed the fire. These closures disrupted local businesses and daily town operations, Mulholland noted.
Mulholland praised Alliance Minister Andrew Muir for advancing the Dilapidation Bill. The bill would allow local councils to issue enforcement notices to property owners and occupiers for maintenance.
