Carrickfergus Couple in Their 80s Embrace Health App
A Carrickfergus couple in their 80s are urging peers to try digital health tools after finding the My Care app easy to use and beneficial. Roy Lowry, 80, and his wife Gloria, 79, began using the app through the Northern Health and Social Care Trust. They report reduced anxiety thanks to faster access to test results.
Gloria Lowry said she can view some test results on the app almost immediately, bypassing the wait for GP notification. She described the process as simple, even for someone with limited technical confidence. The timely access has provided peace of mind, she added.
Her husband Roy echoed that sentiment, noting that entering a password gives him all the information he needs. He remarked that if he can use the technology at 80, anyone can.
The My Care app launched across Northern Ireland's health trusts in 2023. Since then, almost 325,000 people have downloaded it. The app allows patients to manage appointments, view health information, and access certain test results securely.
Dr James Nelson, Chief Clinical Information Officer at the Northern Trust, stated that the Lowrys' experience highlights the broad appeal of digital health tools. He said the app is designed to be user-friendly and accessible, helping patients stay informed and engaged in their care.
