Larne man sentenced for officer assault at band parade
A 20-year-old Larne man has been sentenced to 60 hours of community service after admitting assaulting a police officer earlier this year.
Robbie Clarke, of Walnut Road, Larne, entered a guilty plea at Ballymena Magistrates' Court.
The court heard the incident took place on 2 May during a band parade in Larne.
A prosecutor said an officer tried to restrain Clarke, who resisted and attempted to break free while striking out.
This led to a struggle and the officer received an injury to his left hand middle finger. He later attended hospital for treatment.
Clarke had no previous record.
District Judge Nigel Broderick stated that the court views assaults on police officers as serious matters, given their role as public servants protecting the community.
Clarke was ordered to complete 60 hours of Community Service as punishment.
