MLA demands immediate action on Springfarm alleyway repairs
The condition of alleyways on the Springfarm estate in Antrim has prompted a local MLA to demand emergency action from public agencies.
Declan Kearney, Sinn Féin representative for South Antrim, said he was contacted by residents of Arran Street during recent door-to-door visits who highlighted the deterioration at the rear of their homes.
Mr Kearney described the scenes as unacceptable, noting that no maintenance or cleansing work had taken place for a prolonged period. He said parents expressed concern about allowing their children to use what should be safe play areas, while older residents reported difficulties navigating the alleys to put out bins for collection.
The MLA said he has notified the relevant authorities and intends to convene an on-site meeting to review cleansing protocols. He is seeking immediate measures to bring the alleyways up to an acceptable standard and a commitment to ongoing maintenance throughout the estate.
