Carnfunnock Country Park upgrade on schedule; Larne basketball court gets minor improvements
The £7 million redevelopment of Carnfunnock Country Park outside Larne is progressing as planned, with the council confirming the project remains on schedule for completion within the original 15-month window.
The park closed last July for the upgrade, funded by the UK Government and Mid and East Antrim Borough Council. New features will include a visitor centre, an accessible adventure play park, and a bike park with a pump track and jump trail aimed at older children and adults.
A modern amenity block for the caravan park will also be built. The council stated the project will create a high-quality, inclusive destination to boost well-being and tourism in the area.
Separately, the council addressed a query about the basketball court at Chaine Park in Larne. The court was recently re-lined to encourage more use.
The park already contains a play area, tennis courts, a refurbished multi-use games area, upgraded public toilets, and a newly built skate park. There are no immediate plans to repurpose the basketball court, the interim chief executive said.
Any future proposals would require a feasibility assessment, council approval, and would need to fit within the council's capital plan alongside other priorities.
