A man aged in his 40s has been charged with rape, false imprisonment, non-fatal strangulation and sexual assault, following a report of a serious sexual assault in Belfast on Sunday 14 June 2026.

He is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court today, Monday 15 June.

The charges were brought after police arrested the man in connection with the incident.

As is standard procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
