Derry School Defies Unsafe Roof to Stage Oliver Junior
Nazareth House Primary School in Derry is staging its production of Oliver Junior this month after overcoming the disruption of a forced six-month closure.
The school was shut from December 2025 to March 2026 when its roof was found to be unsafe, halting rehearsals and planning for the annual musical.
A school spokesperson said pupils, staff and families worked together to keep the show alive, adapting to the circumstances and finding new ways to rehearse.
The school described the production as a celebration of its community's resilience and unity, reflecting a long tradition of staging musicals.
Director Paul O'Hea and musical director Joanna Higgins led the effort, with thanks extended to parents, staff and Nuala McDaid for guidance.
Oliver Junior runs from 16 to 18 June, with tickets available from the school office.
