Woman arrested over attempted murder of police officer in Downpatrick
A 27-year-old woman has been arrested by detectives investigating the attempted murder of a police officer in Downpatrick. She was detained on Thursday 11 June on suspicion of assisting an offender and remains in police custody.
The arrest is linked to an incident on Sunday 31 May when an officer was seriously injured after being struck by a stolen police car in the Co Down town.
Two men have already appeared in court charged in connection with the same incident. Conor Carey, 36, of Glassheena Road in Downpatrick, is charged with attempted murder, aggravated vehicle taking causing injury, and driving without insurance. He has been remanded in custody.
Kieran Turley, 27, from Vianstown Road in Downpatrick, faces charges of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and using a motor vehicle with no insurance. He was also remanded in custody and is due to appear in court again later in June.
A police spokesperson confirmed the woman's arrest and said the investigation continues.
