Pallets tumble in Derry incident, narrowly missing elderly man
Police responded to a report of youths pushing two stacks of pallets on a flatbed trolley in the Glen Road area of Derry on Sunday night.
The pallets were stacked approximately 20 high. Officers from the Foyleside and The Moor Neighbourhood Policing Team attended after the youths pushed the pallets into a kerb in the Glenview Avenue area.
A number of pallets struck an 8ft wall and five fell into a garden, narrowly missing an elderly man who had just returned inside his property.
Approximately 40 pallets were left across the road, blocking access. Officers redirected traffic and put a temporary road closure in place at Glenbank Road to Argyle Terrace before reopening the route.
Police said the actions put the youths and members of the public at risk of injury and risked damage to property. They also stated the pallets were taken without the owners' permission.
Police appealed for anyone in the Glen Road or Glenview Avenue areas on Sunday night who has information, including dash-cam, CCTV or other footage, to contact them on 101 quoting reference 1286 of 31/05/2026.
