PSNI Seize Items After Group Spotted With Knives at Newtownabbey Park
Police attended Hazelbank Park in Newtownabbey on Wednesday afternoon after receiving reports of a group of men in ceremonial clothing carrying items that appeared to be knives.
Officers spoke to those present and recovered a number of items. Enquiries are ongoing.
Stephen Baker, who faces separate charges for possession of a knuckle duster, posted on social media criticising the PSNI and questioning what action would be taken if others were involved in a similar incident.
DUP MLA Phillip Brett said he was concerned by reports of ceremonial knives being displayed at the park and sought clarification from police on what occurred.
Brett stated that local residents are entitled to feel safe in the public space and called for reassurance that public safety is a priority.
Police confirmed they are aware of a protest planned for Thursday.
