Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service will hold a series of Come and Try Days for women at stations across the region in early June.

The events are scheduled at Central Fire Station in Belfast on 7 and 13 June, Crescent Link Fire Station in Derry/Londonderry on 6 June, Omagh Fire Station on 14 June, Antrim Fire Station on 6 June, and Armagh Fire Station on 13 June.

Each session runs for two and a half hours, with morning and afternoon slots available. Women aged 17 and over can register via the NIFRS website.

The service reports that the proportion of female wholetime firefighters has risen from 4.97% to 9.56% over the past five years.

Station Commander Nicola McSherry said the days aim to build confidence, address misconceptions about physical demands, and allow participants to meet current female firefighters and ask questions.

The initiative precedes a wholetime firefighter recruitment campaign due to open in June 2026.

The service stated that the events will cover operational duties, community engagement and emergency prevention work.
