NIFRS to hold women-only recruitment events ahead of 2026 firefighter drive
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service will run a series of Come and Try Days for women interested in firefighter roles.
Derry's Crescent Link Fire Station will hold its session on Saturday 6 June, with morning and afternoon slots available.
Other events are scheduled at Antrim Fire Station on the same date, Central Fire Station in Belfast on 7 and 13 June, Armagh Fire Station on 13 June, and Omagh Fire Station on 14 June.
The sessions form part of preparations for a Wholetime Firefighter recruitment campaign that opens in June 2026.
Participants must be aged 17 or over. Places are limited and advance registration is required via Eventbrite.
The service reported that the proportion of female Wholetime firefighters has risen from 4.97% to 9.56% over the past five years.
Station Commander Nicola McSherry said the events aim to build confidence, address misconceptions about fitness requirements, and allow women to speak directly with serving female firefighters.
