Data Links Belfast Riot Arrests to Domestic Abuse Reports
Police Service of Northern Ireland data shows that 12 of the 49 people arrested for involvement in the August 2024 Belfast disorder were later reported for domestic abuse.
The figures were released under Freedom of Information laws.
Earlier records indicated that almost half of those arrested had been the subject of a domestic abuse report before the disorder.
The Public Prosecution Service reported that 27 people have been convicted and sentenced, including eight children who received youth conference plans.
Decisions not to prosecute were made in nine cases, and 13 cases remain ongoing.
The youngest person arrested was 11 years old.
Internal documents from a multi-agency meeting noted PSNI concerns about extremism, radicalisation and exploitation of children, and that many of the young people involved were not previously known to police.
