Apprentices from South Eastern Regional College's Level 3 Electrical Installation course attended a Tech Talk event hosted by City Electrical Factors at the Culloden Estate & Spa.

The session focused on Amendment 4 of the Electrical Wiring Regulations. Students also viewed new products from manufacturers and received certificates for 3.5 hours of Continuing Professional Development.

Christopher Patterson, an Electrical Installation Lecturer at SERC, said the event gave students direct exposure to current regulations and industry developments.

One student, Ekin, completed a traineeship at the college's Lisburn Campus before progressing to the Level 3 apprenticeship. He secured a work placement with a domestic electrical company during the traineeship.

Ekin is now employed by TG Electrical & Engineering Ltd. He attends college one day per week for theory and workshop sessions covering health and safety, electrical science, and domestic wiring.

Ekin said the traineeship provided a foundation for the apprenticeship and that the college's tutors and facilities supported the transition from classroom learning to on-site work.

SERC offers full-time and part-time courses with an open evening scheduled for 4 June 2026 at its Bangor, Downpatrick, Lisburn and Newtownards campuses.
