Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust to continue operations after founders step back
Eithne and Colin Bell are stepping back from the day-to-day running of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.
The Newry-based charity was established after their son Kevin died in a hit-and-run incident in the Bronx in June 2013.
The trust pays for the repatriation of bodies to families across Ireland, with nearly 2,500 repatriations completed to date.
The organisation is based at the Whitegates Community Business Park in Newry and currently handles 30 to 35 repatriations each month.
The couple employed a director of operations nine months ago and the trust now has two staff members in the Newry office.
Colin Bell continues to attend cheque presentations across Ireland, including recent events in Kerry, Lurgan, Toomebridge, Omagh and Dungannon.
The couple's six surviving children are the charity's trustees and will maintain involvement in its future operations.
