DUP MP Carla Lockhart has called for Northern Ireland's Equality Commission and Human Rights Commission to issue updated guidance on single-sex spaces.

Lockhart made the statement after the Equality and Human Rights Commission in Great Britain issued revised guidance following a Supreme Court judgment on the definition of a woman.

She said the commissions in Northern Ireland continue to cite the need for additional court rulings to avoid providing direction.

Lockhart noted that the Dillon judgment clarified limits on Article 2 of the Windsor Framework and rejected interpretations that extend its reach too far.

She stated that public bodies and institutions require clear direction rather than further delay.

Lockhart said men's facilities should be for men and women's facilities should be for women, adding that single-sex spaces are protected under biological sex.
