Council approves drainage upgrades at Dundrum playing fields
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has approved essential drainage works at Dundrum Playing Fields.
The council ratified a committee decision at its meeting on 5 May to authorise a business case and budget for the project and to seek tenders for a contractor.
The works involve installing a grid of perforated pipes under the pitch next to the pavilion at the Old Road site.
The scheme is estimated to cost around £198,000.
A planning application for the scheme was submitted in February 2025.
The council will meet with teams that use the pitches before any works begin.
The improvements aim to reduce waterlogging and improve the usability of the facilities for local clubs and schools.
