Mid and East Antrim Council will construct new toilet and shower facilities at Browns Bay on the Islandmagee peninsula. The project includes a Changing Places unit for people with additional needs, male and female toilets, and outdoor showers for swimmers and beach users.

Browns Bay lies north of the Islandmagee peninsula between Skernaghan Point and Barrs Point. The site features a large car park and wheelchair accessible grass area.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, stated that inclusion and accessibility matter to the council. He noted the council secured funding for the improved facilities at the site.

Councillor Minford described Browns Bay as an asset that offers safe bathing and coastal views for residents and visitors. He said the investment aims to draw more people to the borough's coastline.

He highlighted the Changing Places unit as a key feature to meet all visitors' needs.

A section of the building will include a sluice for touring vehicles to dispose of chemical toilet waste.

Temporary toilets will stay open during construction. The council expects the new facilities to open before the end of 2026.
