Belfast Pub and Hotel Face Demolition for Student Accommodation Project
The Botanic Inn and Wellington Park Hotel in south Belfast could be demolished to build more than 500 student rooms. The Mooney Hotel Group and Hillsborough-based Graham construction firm proposed the project. The Botanic Inn would be rebuilt on the site.
A pre-application planning notice outlines the concept before a full application. The site sits five minutes walk from Queen's University campus.
John McDonald of Graham called the location ideal for Queen's students. He said the plans offer convenience, comfort and security. Graham partners with Homes for Students, the UK's largest independent student accommodation provider entering Northern Ireland.
Felix Mooney of the Mooney group noted changes in Belfast's hospitality trade toward city centre visitors. He expressed pride in the Wellington Park Hotel's 75-year history and thanks to employees, customers, partners and the community.
