Enniskillen Rugby Club Plans Memorial Match for Ernie Beatty
Enniskillen Rugby Club schedules a memorial match for Ernie Beatty on Saturday, May 23, at the Mullaghmeen grounds in Fermanagh. The event starts at 2pm with the unveiling of a new defibrillator, followed by the match kick-off at 2.30pm.
Proceeds from the event will support the British Heart Foundation and the rugby club. A BBQ and bouncy castle will be available.
Ernie Beatty died in August 2024 at age 68. He lived across the road from the club grounds and contributed on and off the pitch.
Beatty served as club president from 1999 to 2001. He played as prop forward, as did his sons Richard and Gareth. His daughter Joan played for Ulster and London Wasps and earned an England cap.
Earlier, Beatty attended Portora Royal School and represented Ulster Schools and Ulster Under-19s. He played senior rugby with Rainey Old Boys and Armagh and helped found Cookstown RFC in the late 1980s.
Organisers invite the community to attend the family event.
