Kneecap Album Leads UK Chart Race for Historic Irish Language Top Spot
The Belfast rap group Kneecap leads the UK album chart with their release FENIAN. The album stands less than 3,000 units ahead of third place according to the Official Charts Company.
A number one position would mark the first time an Irish language album has topped the UK charts. The final chart for the week will be announced on Friday at 5pm.
Kneecap compete against Melanie C's solo album Sweat and a Michael Jackson compilation from 2005. The group noted on social media their current lead with three days remaining.
Band members stated that critics including Keir Starmer, Kemi Badenoch and Sharon Osbourne would react strongly to a chart-topping result. They urged supporters to purchase the album and included calls for a free Palestine and the six counties.
