Fermanagh Businessman Acquires Abandoned Ayr Shopping Centre
David Mahon, a businessman from Fermanagh, purchased The Kyle Centre shopping complex in Ayr, Scotland, at auction last year for £290,000.
The site covers four acres and contains 11 residential flats, 30 ground-floor shop premises, a café, kitchen, and retail unit storage on the first floor. It has remained closed since 2020. Some tenants continue to occupy units despite widespread vacancies.
Mahon plans to redevelop the disused property. He has no prior connections to Ayrshire.
This acquisition marks his second major purchase in recent months. In February, he acquired part of Devenish Island. He also bought the Linen Green shopping centre in Dungannon in 2024.
Jim Malcolm, an architect technician based in Cumnock, noted Mahon's experience in auction sites and caravan parks across the UK. Malcolm stated Mahon has conducted similar developments for years and is committed to restoring the Ayr site.
