South Eastern Trust Hosts Coffee Morning for Kinship Foster Carers
South Eastern Trust organised a coffee morning for kinship foster carers as part of Kinship Foster Care Celebration Week. The event allowed carers to meet others with similar experiences, drink tea and coffee, and consider their role in providing homes for children.
Vicky Allen, a kinship foster carer for four years, described her experience as positive. She noted initial apprehension but encouraged others to pursue it with available support and training. Allen credited the Fostering Network Team and her social worker Shawneen for their assistance. She valued the event for connecting with peers who share the role.
Gary and Daria Gates from Neurodiversity Spark attended the event. Their organisation assists with understanding neurodivergence in work settings and promotes sustainable inclusion.
Sarah Moore, principal social worker at South Eastern Trust, stated the event recognises carers' contributions to children's lives. It provided access to support from Neurodiversity Spark and information on fostering training. Moore said the trust relies on these carers for children's safe homes and values their opportunities to connect.
