Alliance MLA Kellie Armstrong Announces Retirement from Strangford Seat
Alliance MLA Kellie Armstrong will not stand for re-election to the Northern Ireland Assembly for Strangford in 2027. She represents the Strangford constituency, where she received the most first-preference votes in the 2022 election.
Armstrong entered the Assembly in 2016 and won re-election in 2017 and 2022. Before that, she served as a councillor on Ards Council and later Ards and North Down Council from 2013 to 2016.
She plans to continue serving Strangford constituents as an MLA until the Assembly dissolves ahead of the next election. Her constituency office in Newtownards will remain open to assist residents.
Armstrong expressed gratitude to voters, her family, Alliance colleagues, and local party representatives for their support over the years. She intends to remain involved with the Alliance Party and support her successor.
Alliance leader Naomi Long stated that Armstrong has advocated for fairness, equality, and a shared future in areas including housing, transport, disability rights, and integrated education.
