Man Charged After £4m Cannabis Seizure at Larne Harbour
A 53-year-old man appeared in Antrim Magistrates Court, sitting at Ballymena Magistrates Court, on April 28. Police charged him with possession of a Class B controlled drug and possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply. He also faces charges of driving without a licence and using a motor vehicle without insurance.
The charges relate to a seizure of suspected cannabis valued at £4m at Larne Harbour. PSNI detectives found the drugs hidden in numerous boxes inside a lorry that travelled from Scotland to the port.
The PSNI Organised Crime Branch conducted the operation with An Garda Síochána National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau under the Joint Agency Task Force.
Police stated the drugs were destined for organised crime groups across the island of Ireland. The task force aims to combat cross-jurisdictional organised crime. All charges await review by the Public Prosecution Service.
