53-Year-Old Charged After £4m Cannabis Found in Lorry at Larne Harbour
A 53-year-old man appeared in Antrim Magistrates Court at Ballymena on April 28. Police charged him with possession of a Class B controlled drug and possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply. He also faces charges of driving without a licence and using a motor vehicle without insurance.
The charges stem from a seizure of suspected cannabis worth £4m at Larne Harbour on April 27. PSNI detectives discovered the drugs inside numerous boxes in a lorry that arrived from Scotland.
The PSNI Organised Crime Branch carried out the operation with An Garda Síochána National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau. The effort formed part of the Joint Agency Task Force.
Police stated the drugs targeted organised crime groups across the island of Ireland. The task force works to address cross-jurisdictional organised crime.
All charges will undergo review by the Public Prosecution Service.
