Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald launched Businessline, a telephone helpline from the Trading Standards Service. The service supports Northern Ireland businesses with trading standards regulations.

Businessline offers free advice on businesses' rights and responsibilities under consumer protection law. Guidance covers description of goods and services, pricing regulations, online selling rules, weights and measures requirements, and obligations when selling to consumers.

Dr Archibald stated the helpline gives direct access to expert advice for navigating regulations. She noted businesses using it can avoid costly errors, improve compliance, and increase consumer confidence. Many firms lack internal legal or compliance support, and the service provides practical guidance.

Richard Knipe from the Trading Standards Service said the helpline helps businesses comply from the start. He added that most businesses seek full compliance and the support aids meeting requirements. Firms understanding regulations reduce non-compliance risks, improve customer service, and gain long-term sustainability and repeat business.

Businesses can call Businessline at 0300 077 0323 from Monday to Thursday 9am to 5pm and Friday 9am to 4pm. Email inquiries go to tssbusinessline@economy-ni.gov.uk.
