Department for the Economy Opens Recruitment for Northern Regional College Governing Body
The Department for the Economy has started a public appointment process to recruit six members to the Governing Body of Northern Regional College.
Northern Regional College operates as one of six further education colleges in Northern Ireland. These colleges function as non-departmental public bodies under the Department for the Economy, established by the Further Education (Northern Ireland) Order 1997.
The Governing Body handles efficient management of the college, provision of further education to students, and sets the college's strategic direction. It considers needs of the business sector and local community in delivering services.
Candidates must meet essential criteria in leadership and corporate governance, delivering strategy and analytical skills, communication and partnership working, and one specialist skill from sustainability or green economy, business development, digital economy including emerging technologies, or managing and developing people. Applicants also need prior engagement or employment in business, industry, or a profession.
The Department seeks individuals from community, voluntary, business, or public sectors. Applications from women, people under 40, those with disabilities, and minority ethnic communities receive particular welcome. A guaranteed interview scheme applies for applicants with disabilities.
Appointments last an initial four years. Members commit about one day per month, including six to nine full evening meetings yearly and four or more committee meetings. The role pays 250 pounds per meeting and 150 pounds per committee meeting or sanctioned event, plus travel and subsistence at civil service rates.
Applications close at 12 noon on Thursday, 14 May 2026. Further details and application packs are available from the DfE Public Appointments Unit.
