Ballymena Man Jailed for Rioting in June 2025 Disorder
Kurtis Dunlop, 23, from Ballymena, received a 32-month prison sentence at Antrim Crown Court. Half the term will be served in custody and half on licence. The charges relate to rioting on Bridge Street in Ballymena on 11 June 2025.
Large-scale disorder started in Ballymena on 9 June 2025 and continued for three nights. Police observed Dunlop throwing masonry at a police vehicle. He then joined others in attacking officers with fireworks, bottles and other missiles.
Violence also took place in Larne, Newtownabbey, Portadown and Derry/Londonderry. Officers suffered injuries from petrol bombs, masonry and fireworks. Damage affected roads, homes, cars and business premises.
Detective Chief Inspector Michael O'Loan stated that police faced attacks during the events and assured the public of efforts to prosecute participants. He noted that the investigation team secured multiple convictions, with Dunlop's case among them.
