Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council conferred the Freedom of the Borough on Hannah Scott MBE on Saturday in Coleraine.

Scott, aged 26, won gold in the Women’s Quadruple Sculls for Team GB at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She became the second woman from Northern Ireland to win Olympic gold, following Mary Peters in 1972.

Northern Ireland athletes won seven medals at the 2024 Olympics. Rhys McClenaghan of Newtownards won gold in pommel horse. Daniel Wiffen of Magheralin in County Armagh won gold in the 800m freestyle and bronze in the 1500m freestyle. Jack McMillan of Belfast won gold in swimming. Philip Doyle of Banbridge won bronze in double sculls. Rebecca Shorten of Belfast won silver in rowing.

A celebration for the Northern Ireland Olympic athletes took place at the SSE Arena in October.
