John Quinn, 52, from Derryloughan Road in Coalisland, received a £315 fine at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court for two fishing offences. The court convicted him of fishing within 1610 metres of a salmon river mouth and using nets without proper markings.

The violations occurred on June 26, 2024. Quinn faced a £150 fine for each count, plus a £15 offender levy.

DAERA Inland Fisheries Inspectorate observed the illegal activity. The department enforces rules in waters used by Atlantic salmon and trout.

Suspected illegal fishing can be reported to DAERA Inland Fisheries at 0300 200 7860 during office hours or 0800 807 060 outside those times.
