Rory McIlroy Secures Consecutive Masters Titles from County Down
Rory McIlroy from Holywood in County Down won the Masters for the second year in a row. He finished at 12 under par, one stroke ahead of Scottie Scheffler. Scheffler ended at 11 under after a four-under final round.
McIlroy scored one over on the par-four 18th hole to claim the title. He joined Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Nick Faldo as the only players to defend the Masters title successfully. This marks his sixth major championship victory.
The win came one year after McIlroy completed the career grand slam at the Masters. His parents Rosie and Gerry attended the event in Augusta, Georgia. McIlroy credited his family for support from his early days in golf.
He noted his mother attended his second major win, having been present at The Open in Hoylake in 2014. His wife Erica and daughter Poppy also watched the victory.
Golfers congratulated McIlroy after the win. Shane Lowry embraced him on the course. Phil Mickelson praised the back-to-back achievement. Justin Rose posted support on social media.
