Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has received plans to develop seven glamping pods and a spa at the former Bellarena Primary School on 260 Seacoast Road.

The proposals include a rear extension to the listed building to house a spa treatment area. This will replace an existing art studio in the rear section.

The frontage of the old school currently operates as a cafe since 2022.

The school closed in 2019 after 150 years.

A design statement indicates the extension at the rear will leave the character and principal elevation of the listed structure unchanged.

The statement notes the tourism accommodation will support the cafe and spa operations. It will add to tourist lodging along the North Coast. The plans aim to create jobs and maintain the historic building.
