Ali Chambers from Portrush plans to run the Dublin Marathon in October to raise money for the Portrush RNLI lifeboat station. His family has served the station across multiple generations.

Karl Chambers worked as lifeboat mechanic from 1924 to 1947. Gilbert Chambers held the role from 1947 to 1978. Derek Chambers served as lifeboat mechanic and coxswain from 1978 to 1998. Anthony Chambers acted as lifeboat mechanic from 1998 to 2020.

Ali Chambers is the son of Anthony Chambers, grandson of Gilbert Chambers and great-grandson of Karl Chambers. His cousins Karl O'Neill and Jason Chambers also serve the RNLI. Karl O'Neill is the full-time coxswain at Portrush. Jason Chambers works as relief mechanic and crew member.

Ali Chambers recalled his father responding to call-outs at all hours. He has run half marathons before and now aims to complete a full marathon. He expressed pride in his family history and a wish to support the volunteer crew along the coast.

Judy Nelson, volunteer lifeboat press officer, welcomed Ali Chambers's choice of Portrush RNLI for his fundraising. She noted his training in various weather conditions and crew support for him. Ali Chambers will soon launch a Just Giving page for donations.
