A new season of the TV series A&E After Dark includes footage from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. The series airs on 5Star and starts on Thursday.

The programme shows Northern Ireland hospitals for the first time alongside other UK sites. Staff at Belfast Trust handle urgent cases in the emergency department.

The first episode covers two men injured in a 70mph collision during heavy rain. Emergency medicine registrar Dr Rachel Calvin treated the patients. She has worked in emergency medicine for 10 years.

Dr Calvin described the department as fast-paced with varied cases each day. She noted the value in helping patients and families during urgent needs.

Emergency medicine registrar Dr Michael Burney also treated the men. He has worked in the department for one year. Dr Burney called the emergency department the front door of the hospital for all medical issues.

Deputy Sister Rebekah Camblin has worked in the department for 10 years. She appears in multiple episodes of the series.
