Rosary Marks 180th Anniversary of Tyrone Priest Fr Patrick Hughes
A group recited the Rosary at a graveside in Dunmoyle chapel, Tyrone, last Sunday to mark the 180th anniversary of Fr Patrick Hughes's birth. Fr Hughes was born in Dunmoyle on March 22, 1846.
The priest served as curate in Loughgall from 1873 to 1894. He then became Parish Priest of Eglish, holding the position until 1918. He died on November 21, 1923.
Fr Hughes spent his final two years with his brothers in Dunmoyle and the Magee family in Brantry. His grave in Dunmoyle chapel received recent refurbishment by Eamon Jordan of Eglish.
Attendees included people from Dunmoyle, Sixmilecross, and Eglish areas. Fr Patrick McCrory, a Dunmoyle-born priest and grand-nephew of Fr Hughes, took part.
The recitation sought Fr Hughes's intercession against abortion in Ireland.
