DUP MLA Trevor Clarke Reports Social Media Threats to Police
South Antrim DUP MLA Trevor Clarke has reported threatening messages received on social media to the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
The PSNI received the report on Friday and confirmed its investigation is ongoing.
Clarke described the comments as explicit threats of violence and intimidation. He stated that no one in public life should tolerate such abuse.
The MLA called the messages an attack on him personally and on the democratic process.
Clarke said those responsible must face accountability. He added that he will not be intimidated and plans to continue his duties without fear or favour.
Det Sgt Crothers of the PSNI noted that elected representatives face routine abuse and threats. He said police will investigate reported offences robustly and support politicians to work free from intimidation.
