Paul Cotton, 41, from Mourne Park in Newtownstewart, appeared at Strabane Magistrates Court for two counts of driving while disqualified.

Police stopped Cotton driving a Ford Focus on Melmount Road in Strabane on November 17. Checks showed his disqualification from November 6 after a prior excess alcohol offence. Cotton admitted the offence at the scene.

On December 4, police stopped Cotton driving the same vehicle on Clanabogan Road in Omagh. He admitted this offence too and cooperated fully.

Cotton serves as vice-chairman of the mental health charity Together With Solace. He works in the community and attended meetings for the group. He has Type Two Diabetes and physical and mental health issues. He entered guilty pleas early.

District Judge Alana McSorley noted Cotton's defiance of a court order met the custody threshold. The judge recognised his community contributions.

Cotton received an enhanced combination order with 100 hours community service and 18 months probation. He faces a two-year driving disqualification and £800 fines.
