Ards and North Down Council plans to install a memorial bench for Jaidyn Rice, a 16-year-old from Bangor, County Down. Rice died after a car struck her on West Circular Road near her home last July. A 30-year-old man faces charges related to her death.

Mayor Gillian McCollum and Councillor Pete Wray proposed the bench following a meeting with Rice's family. The bench will include a QR code linking to the council's 'Here to Help' app. The app directs users to services for domestic abuse, substance abuse and counselling.

Rice served as a youth leader and army cadet in the Clandeboye community. McCollum stated the bench aims to reflect Rice's community contributions and assist her family, friends and others feeling isolated. Wray noted it recognises Rice's influence on youth groups and provides a space for reflection and help.

The proposal comes amid seven recent road deaths in the borough.
