Funding Shortfall Halts Drumragh Integrated College Extension in Omagh
Design work has finished for a single-storey extension at Drumragh Integrated College in Omagh, but construction cannot start due to insufficient funding. The project aims to accommodate rising enrolment numbers. Plans have been under consideration for several years, with building work originally scheduled to begin in 2023.
Education Minister Paul Givan stated that additional funding is needed to advance to contractor procurement and construction. He provided the update in response to a question from West Tyrone MLA Daniel McCrossan at the Northern Ireland Assembly.
Givan noted that plans for St Catherine’s Primary School in Strabane remain in early design stages. An expansion at Dean Maguirc College in Carrickmore was paused in 2023 and has not resumed.
Under the School Enhancement Programme, expansion and refurbishment plans for St Mary’s Primary School in Cloughcor are at early design stage. The work includes an extension, refurbishment of the main building, and site improvements for play areas, traffic management, and parking. Land and Property Services are negotiating for a second plot of land.
Refurbishment and a two-storey extension at Strabane Primary School are in the business case development stage.
Construction started on the Strule Shared Education Campus in Omagh in early February 2025. Full opening is scheduled for September 2028.
