Wellington Presbyterian Church Applies to Convert Ballymena Cafe into Community Hub
Wellington Presbyterian Church submitted a planning application to change the use of Riverdale Cafe on Tullygarley Road in Ballymena from commercial cafe to a community hub and drop-in centre for an initial three-year period.
The church holds a three-year lease on the premises to test the facility. The former cafe served briefly as a community warm space over winter, where visitors received free hot drinks and warmth.
Church representatives stated that the experience revealed a sustained demand in the Tullygarley area for such a space. They plan to operate the drop-in centre on several mornings weekly, with potential additions like homework clubs in afternoons.
Limited evening openings are proposed for drop-in sessions, chatty cafes, and informal church-run events open to the public. No alterations to the cafe's interior or exterior are planned.
The church understands that local residents and neighbours support the proposal as a positive community development.
