Tyrone Firm Celebrates 50 Years of Water Infrastructure Work
Lowry Building & Civil Engineering, based in Castlederg, Tyrone, has reached 50 years of work with Northern Ireland's water sector. The firm started in 1961 with house building and entered water services in 1976 by providing machinery.
The company now employs more than 120 staff and has completed water infrastructure projects worth over £30 million for NI Water. Ian Lowry, managing director, stated that the milestone highlights the firm's role in supplying safe drinking water to communities. He noted investments in equipment, staff, and processes, along with building local supply chains.
LBCE became a framework partner for NI Water in 2010. The firm has assisted in updating wastewater services to meet demand, environmental needs, and regulations.
Ian Lowry added that diverse viewpoints strengthen the business. He mentioned the next generation, including two sons and three daughters, plus other female team members, contributing to future water management and engineering.
To observe the anniversary, LBCE plans support for water industry charity initiatives and events in 2026.
