Poultry Competitions Cancelled at Balmoral Show Due to Bird Flu Rules
Organisers have cancelled poultry competition classes at the Balmoral Show for the fourth time in five years. Bird flu restrictions prevent bird gatherings. A housing order remains in effect since November 2025.
Uncertainty over lifting the restrictions blocks the classes scheduled for May. The show runs from 13 to 16 May at the Eikon centre near Lisburn.
A display of birds from one flock will occur over the four days, as in past years. Egg and decorated egg classes proceed as usual.
Four outbreaks appeared in commercial poultry settings in the 2025/26 season. Thousands of birds, including 1000 pheasants, faced culling.
