Darkness Into Light Hannahstown Announces 2026 Suicide Prevention Walk
Organisers in Hannahstown have opened registrations for the 2026 Darkness Into Light walk. The 5km event takes place on Saturday May 9 starting from Lámh Dhearg CLG Clubrooms at dawn.
The walk raises funds for the Suicide Awareness and Support Group in Belfast. The charity offers crisis intervention for people at risk of suicide and support for families bereaved by suicide.
High-risk individuals receive same-day assessments and personalised safety plans. The group provides emotional assistance and advocates with external agencies for those affected.
Actor Anthony Boyle attended the launch event. He stated that the walk demonstrates compassion and availability of help for those struggling.
Deputy Lord Mayor Cllr Paul Doherty also joined the launch. He appeared alongside Boyle, Michael Boyle, Martin Fegan, Áine McIlhone, Margaret Walker and Peter Kane.
Tommy Holland of the Suicide Awareness and Support Group noted that last year's walk funded 1,202 crisis and family support sessions. He called for community participation to expand outreach and reduce mental health stigma.
