Ivan Cunningham, 50, from Margaret Square in Ballymoney, pleaded guilty at Ballymena Magistrates Court to exceeding a 70mph limit. The incident occurred on Frosses Road in County Antrim on November 27, 2023, when he reached 108mph.

His defence stated he was delivering selection boxes to a food bank and felt pressed for time. He had been stuck behind a slow-moving lorry and accelerated while overtaking. The speeding was not prolonged or intentional, according to the barrister.

District Judge Nigel Broderick ruled that no reason justifies speeding at that level. He banned Cunningham from driving for one month and imposed a £200 fine.

References were submitted on behalf of the defendant during the Thursday hearing.
