Olivia McVeigh, a 27-year-old influencer from Dungannon in Tyrone, has discussed her experience with endometriosis during Awareness Month. She first noticed symptoms at age 10 when her periods began.

McVeigh sought medical help repeatedly over the years. Doctors initially prescribed hormonal birth control and described her pain as normal. Blood tests and scans showed no issues. She visited A&E multiple times due to severe pain but received offers of anxiety medication.

A specialist recommended surgery after she went private. In 2021, more than eight years after first seeking help, doctors diagnosed her during the procedure. They found her left ovary fused to her bowels and removed the ovary.

McVeigh has had two surgeries and experienced menopause from treatment. She stated the condition affects the whole body and has no cure. It continues to impact her daily life, requiring her to manage pain and advocate for herself.

She builds awareness through social media, where she has over 300,000 followers. McVeigh shares content on lifestyle, makeup, wigs, and health issues. She lives with alopecia and runs Wig Workshop.

McVeigh co-hosts the Girls Groupchat Podcast with Diona Doherty, Jordan Arnold, and Shannon Mitch. The podcast covers women's health topics including endometriosis. Their live events include a sold-out show at Waterfront Hall and a planned event at SSE Arena in September.

In 2024, the BBC named her in its annual list of 100 influential women. McVeigh noted increased awareness from women discussing symptoms openly, though gaps remain in understanding based on location and gender.
